I have the same issue with a PS4 controller. I tried three they where all connected to bluetooth. All have spasm while in game and also when it rests in the retropie menu. I can't find any solution online. I have two 8bitdo SFC30 controller and the work without a problem.

      @Freakadude for lr-mame2003 or lr-fbalpha, the default :) ie:

      alt text

that should mean that capcom fighting games have the 'snes sf2 layout' which is pretty standard.

I tried to remove the USB dongle for the mouse/keyboard today, and it resulted in a lot longer playing time before freeze. This freeze issue is definitely related to controller hookup!

I have had a weird experience 2 times... i let the frozen screen hang, and after a good while, the game resumes ?!?! Well, the controller connection is lost, even though the controller LEDs are still lit. If i turn off the controllers and turnthem back on again, they won't pair wih bluetooth.

But it means that i can maybe pull some log files - I'm just not experienced enough to know which logfile woud be relevant, and how to pull it. Maybe someone could help me out in this regard??

@PetroRie said in How do you charge your PS3/PS4 controllers?:

I have been doing that since the beginning. They will work fine, I dont understand why people will charge them separately. I never turn my Pie off, and I do leave the controller connected.

I do the exact same thing and have yet to have an issue.

Although now I'm upgraded to a Pi3 so not sure if Ill still use the USB or Bluetooth connection. But Ill still plug it in overnight to charge.

would you be able to provide the info in the following: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

I think some of it is in your first post, but I'm wondering what emulator is being used for N64 in particular.

lr-Mupen64plus uses retroarch configs and should work okay, but it isn't particularly the default emulator

Mupen64plus used it's own configs. It is supposed to do an auto-config, but that doesn't always work. You can go into the configs and set it manually.

I tend to use lr-Mupen64plus on systems that don't auto-config right, though it may not necessarily be the best performance. N64 is buggy enough that the extra performance difference isn't worth it to me.

How are you guys not using PiFBA?

Because lr-fbalpha runs everything using the v0.2.97.39 romset.

@Mihto 3rd party / clone ps3 controller support is limited at best - i would recommend getting another controller tbh (which you have done).

OK for all 3 people in this thread having this issue, I just took five minutes and setup my ps3 controller to work over bluetooth.

Please refer to this guide https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/PS3-Controller not some random youtube video when doing this. Also make sure you have at least a keyboard configured to work in ES.

Once you have completed these steps and connected your PS3 controller via USB at least once as it asks you to do in the settings, then all you need to do is press whatever button you have configured as start for your keyboard in ES, then scroll down to configure controller, last HOLD the PS button until it takes you to the next page where you can map the controls! Done.

Oh also don't forget to "sudo nano /etc/rc.local" and add in the sixad --start & somewhere before the exit 0 line. I recommend also adding #This line starts Sixaxis pairing on startup directly above the sixad line so you know what the hell it does, that's just my preference though and has no bearing on making it work and presist through a reboot.
